If your remote breaks, you will have to program that as well, not to be mistaken with the need for garage door service. Programming your remote properly is very important because you want to make sure it works with your garage door so that when you come home you are able to easily press the button and it opens right away. You do not want to be stuck outside because you did not program the remote correctly. Programming your remote is fairly simple. Here are three steps to follow to ensure you do it correctly the first time around.

Step 1 – You will want to make sure to change the batteries. This might not seem necessary, but most people forget about the batteries in their garage door remotes. Rather than have to worry about the battery draining and being stuck not able to open the garage door, just change it then while you are thinking about it. Also, if your batteries do run out, you will just have to reprogram it again. Why not do it right the first time and save you time later on.

Step 2 – You will first need to get a step ladder. Then you will need to climb it so you are able to see the back side of the garage door opener. This is usually located in the middle of your garage attached to the ceiling. You should be able to find a small button that is usually either red or black. In order to start the remote programming process you will need to hold this button in for approximately fifteen seconds. A small light should then start to blink on the opener. This blinking light tells you that the garage door opener is ready to be programmed with a remote.

Step 3 – Once the light starts to blink on the garage door opener you will have approximately thirty seconds to press the button on the remote you have purchased. You will want to hold down the remote button for another fifteen seconds. You will know that your remote has been properly programmed when the light on the garage door opener starts to blink very rapidly or holds steady. They change in light differs depending on the brand.

You have officially programmed your new commercial garage door remote. You should now be able to open your garage door from the outside just by pressing the button. We do suggest testing the remote before you decide to leave your home and get locked out. You do not want to find out the button does not work after the fact.
